The World Trade Council of Wichita, in an effort to promote international trade and investment in Greater Wichita and South Central Kansas, has provided a forum for networking and exchanging professional experiences in international business since 1976.
As a Corporate Sponsor and active participant with the World Trade Council of Wichita, Balco was presented with an opportunity to engage in a panel discussion at February’s monthly WTC Event.
Along with Moderator, Daniel Sabol of Bank of America, Balco’s Export Manager, Karly Hakes, took the stage with presenters Amir Etezazi of Etezazi Industries, and Ellie Antova of ICM, Inc. to share experiences in promoting and growing exports within their companies.
Hakes reflected on Balco’s story of trials and successes that has led to positive growth in exports since 2011. By expanding into new markets, Balco diversified its revenue stream at a significant time as the effects of the domestic economy’s down turn of 2008 began to appear in the national construction market. Hakes advised that a major part of being successful in international business is to have an open mind in learning how to service new markets.
A Business Student at Newman University, Hakes has worked in project management for 9 years prior to joining Balco’s Export team in 2012 and serves as Balco’s representative on the World Trade Council of Wichita’s Board of Directors.
